  • Overview

    The Payroll Manager is responsible for monitoring all tasks necessary to accomplish the organization’s payroll processing objectives in the US and Canada, including relationships with external auditors and state and federal agencies. The payroll team includes 4 employees. 

     

    The majority of the Manager's time is spent planning, coordinating and managing the functions of the department.

     

    This position requires an extremely detail oriented person with significant knowledge of payroll administration, including state and federal regulations. 

    Responsibilities

    1. Lead the payroll team to ensure accurate and timely processing of bi-monthly, weekly and special payrolls for associates in multiple locations
    2. Oversee continuous improvement for all payroll processes, including status changes, garnishments, taxes, direct deposits, general ledger posting, etc.
    3. Confirm all data is transmitted properly for associates’ timely and accurate pay
    4. Coordinate all year-end payroll activities
    5. Manage all tax-related processes; ensure third-party vendors are paid in a timely manner
    6. Build and maintain a strong functional payroll team through effective recruiting, training and coaching, team building and succession planning. 

    Qualifications

    • 7+ years relevant experience; Specialized or technical knowledge, credentials or licensing required including a working knowledge of ADP and Kronos or similar software application.
    •  
    • 5-7 years previous experience managing a payroll team and day to day payroll operations is required.

    • Initiative to improve processes.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, multidisciplinary efforts. 
    • Requires ability to communicate with technical and non-technical users.  Working knowledge of an payroll function.
    • Collaborative/team based management style. 
    • Strong verbal/written communication skills.
    • Working knowledge of federal and state employment guidelines.
    • Computer skills including Windows-based programs such as Excel, Power Point, Word and Outlook.
    • Leadership presence; capable of engendering the trust and confidence of all elements of the workforce.

    Travel

    • Local travel to various worksites is required.
