  • Overview

    Developing and implementing plant-wide team efforts in improving key performance indicators such as manufacturing overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), product quality, waste reduction, energy conservation, safety and operating costs necessary to support continuous improvement activities consistent with business goals.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide prompt customer service at a competitive manufacturing cost
    • Responsible for the work of 6-15 supervisors directly and 100-250 employees indirectly.
    • Plan, schedule, and supervise all operational functions to meet or exceed sales requirements at the minimum operating cost.
    • Coordinate the availability of materials, flow of supplies, and manpower in all production and finishing areas to ensure the achievement of quality, production and shipping goals.
    • Review individual cost areas to meet cost reduction goals.
    • Inspect each process to reduce scrap and salvage costs, machine downtime, and to ensure finished quality production.
    • Prepare various reports, attend meetings, etc. to promote open communication between plant personnel.
    • Assist subordinates in the accomplishment of their business objectives and in their efforts to develop themselves technically and professionally.
    • Evaluate supervisors performance and periodically review results with them; assist them to meet objectives, performance standards, quality, housekeeping and all areas of their responsibilities.
    • Recommend salary merit and promotion increases for his direct reports which are within established salary ranges for each position.
    • Supervise the operating departments: Shipping and Receiving, Casting, Assembly, Charge and Cycle, and Finish and Pack including scheduling operations and refining to meet production requirements while maintaining quality and coordinating the maintenance activity to minimize costs.
    • Maintain safe working conditions and practices and operate the plant in compliance with all OSHA and other environmental regulations.

    Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to do this job.

     

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS:
    Required:
    8-10 years experience in a manufacturing plant, with graduated levels of business experience.
    Bachelor’s degree in business or engineering, or 10 years of plant management experience
    Training and/or experience in manufacturing, production, maintenance and personnel.
    Proven leadership experience with significant and verifiable results
    Preferred:
    Battery manufacturing operations experience
    Experience in industrial manufacturing environment with excellent track record of business results and increasingly higher levels of responsibility in line operations or engineering leadership roles
    Leading site level continuous improvement efforts and projects experience
    Experience working in a union manufacturing plant

     

    COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE:
    Required:
    Training and/or experience in manufacturing, production, maintenance, and personnel.
    Good written and oral communication skills.
    Able to administer and follow all safety rules and regulations.
    Working knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Word and Outlook.
    Effective coaching and mentoring skills
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills to give and share information to/with co-workers, customers and production management in order to achieve optimum plant performance
    Preferred:
    Background in supplier quality systems or maintenance management systems

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS
    While performing the duties of this job, individual is regularly required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear
    Individual is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
    Ability to occasionally lift a minimum 50 lbs, regularly lift a minimum 25 lbs on a daily basis and 51 to 150 lbs with assistance of equipment on a daily to weekly basis
    Regular use of safety glasses and steel toed shoes
    Limited to regular use of respirator depending on project or department assignment
    Vision requirements: close vision.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT
    While performing the duties of this job, individual is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles
    Individual occasionally exposed to precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock
    Noise level is minimal to loud
    Regularly is working in a dirty lead contaminated area and must wear a uniform and safety shoes in that area to prevent the tracking and / or possible lead contamination of other clean areas or outside or the regulated areas
    Travel is required in North America, and possibly outside of North America
