  • Overview

It’s another Monday in the office, and a glance at your calendar shows that September of 2023 will be as busy a month as the last. Looking back on the past five years, from day one you’ve successfully met annual performance goals as well as grown with the company after starting in your initial role as a Strategic Portfolio Manager. Now you’re a key player in the Engineering (Finance? Maybe even Supply Chain!) Department. It’s the career progression you had in mind: to dive deep and learn the business from the inside out as part of a growing PMO. You utilized your handful of years’ experience in managing projects and the education you acquired (perhaps even an MBA) to support you along the way. Effectively managing the resources at hand while working closely with project managers and client-serving executives, and reporting to the regional leadership team for planning Business Strategy, Quality & Governance, you quickly grasped the work put before you and took ownership. It feels good to look back on that time from your current, more specialized domain role, and see achievement. This is what it means to make Exide part of your story.

To remind yourself of your accomplishments, you note down some of the Responsibilities you undertook while under the title Strategic Portfolio Manager. The list looks something like this:

    • Monitors portfolio project performance to ensure that project is delivered on time, on budget and meet the stated objectives. Keeps project tracker and other project documentation up to date.
    • Supports and provides guidance to project teams to develop appropriate project scope/KPIs.
    • Manages project risks, schedule delays with Project Managers and facilitates resolution of issues. Escalates and communicates issues promptly.
    • Challenges assumptions, verifies source of information and vets financial model with Project Managers and Finance Managers.
    • Works with functional leaders to ensure optimal resource allocation and project prioritization according to Strategic Business Plan
    • Responsible to prepare and facilitate Monthly Project Reviews to Leadership Team. Performs quality check on project gate presentations and contracts.
    • Conducts post-mortem analysis of closed projects. Share best practice , lesson learned.
    • Leads efforts to enhance the PMO process, update relevant policies and develop reporting metrics.  Coaches project teams and performs training as appropriate
    • Leads and monitors resolution efforts on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Develops relationship with local plant teams, functional leaders, VPs, etc to ensure smooth progression of projects
    • report of projects for the assigned program portfolio

To balance that, you jot down your Education, Experience, and Certification credentials too, to remember just how handy they were on a daily basis:

    • Bachelor degree in technical or business related field required
    • MBA in related field preferred
    • 5-10 years of previous project management, corporate strategic planning and/or consulting experience required
    • Previous cross-functional experience in Manufacturing, Finance, Engineering, Supply Chain, or It, a plus.
    • Previous experience in leading key initiatives within a Business Units
    • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification preferred but not required
    • Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt Certification a plus

But then you recall how integral the soft SkillsCompetencies, and Knowledge you developed have been as well, and make note. They read similar to the following:

    • Strong organization, analytical, time-management and communication skills
    • Outstanding Leadership: Ability to influence leaders and cross functional peers and drive results
    • Excellent Oral and Written communication skills
    • Ability to handle conflict management

    • MS Office skills especially Word, Power Point, Visio, MS-Project and Excel
    • Knowledge of project management tools
    • Travel 25-30% of the year

Does this future memory speak to you? If you can envision this in your mind’s eye, what are you waiting for!? Apply and make Exide the next chapter in your career story.
