  • Overview

    This individual will independently design, develop, maintain, control and support battery manufacturing process of Battery Plate Curing. Function as technical lead for process innovation and enhancements to maximize quality, cost and performance. Support in talent development & mentoring of junior engineers within the group.  The position is located in Milton, GA or at one of our Battery manufacturing locations: AR Fort Smith, GA Columbus, IA Manchester, KS Kansas City, KS Salina, MO Kansas City.

    Responsibilities

    Essential duties include:

    • Lead development of new manufacturing processes in coordination with the introduction of new or improved product designs and product components and materials
    • Supply process or product specific technical expertise to support existing processes and continuously improve in coordination with manufacturing personnel
    • Manage Process Specifications and PFMEA’s to drive increase in quality throughout the business. Manage projects which include coordinating with internal resources, plant personnel and outside suppliers.
    • Develop control methodologies (including measurement systems) for processes to minimize variation and maximize product quality
    • Develop detailed knowledge of Plate Curing manufacturing processes for all Product types and Product Applications
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES/AUTHORITIES:
    • Provide coordination, technical support, mentoring and development for junior process engineers.
    • Talent development & training within the group. Joint assessment with supervising manager of performance on assigned projects or tasks.

    Qualifications

    The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

         Education, Experience, Certifications:

    • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Mechanical or Chemical engineering or demonstrated equivalent experience.
    • Experience with Curing and Drying processes including control of ambient conditions for delivery of desired inorganic crystal size/morphology and speed of moisture removal without damage to crystal structures.

       Competencies, Skills, Knowledge:

    • Individual that has demonstrated over several years (~5) to hold key equipment, process or product knowledge (area expert)

    Language Skills:

    • Demonstrate an ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write technical reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before groups.

    Project Management:

    • Planning & Organizing – Ability to generate and execute project plans, managing schedule, objectives, resources and budget in a cross functional environment.
    • Effectively prioritize tasks to meet project schedules – work on multiple tasks simultaneously, both independently and in a team-oriented environment.

                     PC Software Knowledge:

    • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Windows based programs, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and statistical programs.

    Work Environment:

    • Normal manufacturing plant office and laboratory environment. Plant and field work on a routine basis, where there is potential for exposure to lead, acid fumes, dirt, and noise. (Personal protective equipment and supplies are required and provided.)
