Overview

Primary resource for supporting the America’s Continuous Improvement Journey through lean transformation and six sigma based process improvement initiatives. This individual will be responsible for developing a strategic approach to implement continuous improvement methodologies.  They will deliver practical, hands-on training to associates and tools to eliminate waste in all administrative, manufacturing and support functions, as well as drive process variation reduction in our manufacturing locations.  Measurement and reporting progress on an on-going basis using a balanced scorecard will be key.  Markets served include transportation original equipment and aftermarket, network and motive power.  This position requires a thorough understanding of quality systems, ability to build strong customer relationships, and managing in a matrix organization.  

Responsibilities

  • Provide tools, coaching, and project leadership to enable plants to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity goals.
  • Accelerate cultural change to reduce variation and waste in everything we do.
  • Participate in cross-functional team efforts to make improvements to products and processes ensuring the highest quality products are delivered to the customer.
  • Utilize Lean Six Sigma tools to minimize process variation and maximize capability to specification.
  • Guide all locations on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop Lean and Six Sigma Strategy and tools to be trained, coached, and deployed throughout Exide.
  • Drive standardization and structure into performance indicators from the shop floor through senior management to identify, prioritize and validate the improvement actions and results.
  • Develop plant lean and quality leaders in advanced tools and methodologies for sustainable results.
  • Communicate plans and progress to senior management on a regular basis.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to prioritize and deliver projects on time.
  • Lead a team of CI professionals who work with operations and functional teams to streamline processes to improve the customer experience, enable profitable growth and become more efficient.
  • Serve as a change agent promoting the use of Lean Six Sigma methodology.
  • Create an environment where all employees have increased opportunities to contribute to the success of the business and the security of their future through Continuous Improvement efforts.
  • Provide technical and business support to the overall deployment of new Continuous process improvement initiatives with a focus on experimentation of new theories or the techniques in anticipation of future steps ahead of the current deployment process.
  • Take initiative to apply CI/Lean expertise innovatively in support of the organizational vision that addresses critical business issues and focuses on developing long-term solutions.

Qualifications

Educations, Experience, Certifications:

  • Minimum of 4 year technical degree in science, engineering or quality
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • 8-10 years related experience in quality in a manufacturing environment, preferably tier I automotive supplier
  • Minimum 10 years process improvement experience in manufacturing using formal lean, six sigma, and PMP tools
  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or Master Black Belt

 

Competencies, Skills, Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience in manufacturing plants and processes
  • Able to articulate enterprise wide approach to strategic improvement initiatives
  • Proficient in problem solving – root cause analysis, 5 why, etc.
  • Lean leadership (daily management, standard work, gemba walks, kaizen events, 2P/3P events)
  • Ability to communicate with senior levels of the organization
  • Must be quality and lean oriented
  • Knowledgeable in Quality Operating Systems
  • Passion for driving change in a complex environment
  • Proven track record of developing, training, and coaching teams
  • Knowledgeable in APQP methodology; Control Plans, FMEAs, MSAs, and PPAPs
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment on multiple projects
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills –Windows based programs and Minitab

 

TRAVEL, ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel Expectations: ≤ 30%
