Overview

Individual will lead operational quality for all of Americas by ensuring control of incoming materials, production capability, in-process product performance, and customer satisfaction.  This includes 6 manufacturing sites, 3 plastics and recycling plants, and our distribution network.  Markets served include transportation original equipment and aftermarket, network and motive power.  This position requires a thorough understanding of quality systems, battery manufacturing and design, and managing in a matrix organization.   

Responsibilities

  • Work with manufacturing plants to optimize measurement systems on all new testing procedures.
  • Communicate results and establish priorities for improvement projects.
  • Work across all facilities to standardize approach and methodology globally.
  • Maintaining all standardized in process test methods – writing of test methods and training of plant personnel.
  • Verify testing techniques are complied with – Operators, QA, and Supervisors.
  • Perform layered process audits to ensure compliance to process standards.
  • Lead problems solving and develop corrective actions for overall product and process improvements.
  • Ensure warranty and customer returns are evaluated, documented, and corrective actions are identified, implemented, and verified.
  • Participate in control plan updates and monitor conformance.
  • Participate in APQP activities, including PFMEA development and PPAP for new or existing products and provide leadership to maintain focus on customer quality requirements in a mass production environment.
  • Collaborate with quality management to determine root cause for defects and quality complaints.
  • Lead activities to obtain facts, perform root cause analysis, duplicate defects, and develop corrective actions. This person will interact with engineering, production, and other departments to implement corrective actions.
  • This person will ensure completion of quality verification procedures and documentation per internal/external customer requirements, including sample data sheets, Gage R&R studies, and capability studies.
  • Utilize results from Exide PSR (Process Stability Ratio) tracking to prioritize continuous improvement activities.
  • Work with teams on problem solving initiatives and link actions and outcomes to Control Plans, PFMEA’s, plant inspection points, and customer returns.
  • Coordinate efforts with teams for corrective action resolution on internal KPI’s and external customer issues (assembly plant complaint and warranty initiatives).
  • Work within established policies, procedures, practices, and regulations.

Qualifications

Educations, Experience, Certifications:

  • Minimum of 4 year technical degree in science, engineering or quality. 
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
  • Competencies, Skills, Knowledge:
  • Demonstrate leadership skills
  • Proficient in problem solving – root cause analysis, 5 why, etc.
  • Must be quality and customer oriented
  • Knowledgeable in ISO / IATF16949 quality standards and Quality Operating Systems
  • Knowledgeable in APQP methodology; Control Plans, FMEAs, MSAs, and PPAPs
  • Knowledgeable in Six-Sigma and Lean tools
  • Able to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment on multiple projects
  • Strong skills in statistical methods a plus
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills –Windows based programs and Minitab

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-8 years related experience in quality in a manufacturing environment, preferably tier I automotive supplier.

TRAVEL, ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel Expectations: ≤ 40%
