Overview

Great opportunity for a mid to senior engineer who is looking to move into a leadership position!  This developmental role will enable you to gain exposure to financials (how they are managed and tracked), strategic planning, and project management.  You’ll get to see the function more holistically and be better equipped for a manager position in the future.  This position is ideal for candidates currently living in and around the north-Atlanta area who want to build their career with a global provider of stored electrical energy solutions.

 

The Research, Development, and Engineering Operations (RD&E) and Initiatives Leader will work in close concert with the RD&E VP, to implement and drive strategic initiatives that cut across the Americas engineering enterprise, including but not limited to cost and productivity initiatives within Exide North America (NA) as well as global standards development across the NA and Europe RD&E enterprise.  Additionally, the RD&E Ops and Initiatives Leader will develop and track RD&E (Key Performance Indicators) KPI (financial, schedule, scope) to insure that the greater RD&E organization is fulfilling its financial and operational commitments to the business, providing key insight to progress against the annual and strategic plans, and identification of areas requiring focused attention.

Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential duties that include the following; other duties may be assigned.

  • Partner with the RD&E VP to develop and orchestrate the RD&E strategic plan with the RD&E staff, as well as the annual operating plan.
  •  Lead key RD&E initiatives, with an initial focus on product cost out and process productivity to drive enhanced profitability.

  • Organize and execute an RD&E operating cadence where progress against organizational KPI are reported, and strategies developed to address any gaps to targets.
  • Work with RD&E staff members to develop KPI scorecards around key initiatives of the business, with the scorecards capturing YTD accomplishments as well as forecasting year end performance at the RD&E team and organizational levels.
  • Use the scorecards to drive effort and focus at the team and organizational level to insure RD&E commitments are met
  • Prepare and orchestrate monthly financial forecast for the RD&E organization in concert with RD&E staff members
  • Serve as RD&E VP’s delegate at various meetings as requested.
  • Consolidate and prepare op review materials with the RD&E staff for presentation at the America’s monthly leadership staff meeting

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics or chemistry, Masters preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ professional work experience 
  • Business acumen to evaluate and assess proposals and concepts that further business objectives and recommend high impact initiatives/projects
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate inputs from disparate sources, and distill inputs into a holistic understanding and strategy
  • Demonstrated influencing and project management skills, with demonstrated passion for excellence
  • Strong communication and clear thinking skills
  • Six sigma black belt required. Master black belt certification to be provided during performance of the role
  • Skilled in excel and Powerpoint
